What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese healing modality developed by Dr. Mikao Usui. It uses Universal Life Force energy to heal, rejuvenate and calm the mind and body.
In Japanese, Rei means spiritual consciousness or higher knowledge. Ki means vital life force energy - the same character as the Chinese use for qi or chi in Tai Chi or Qi Gong. There is Universal Life Force energy in all living things. In the practice of Reiki, the practitioner channels this life force energy in to the client to replenish his/her energy, aid healing and promote well-being.
Reiki is a powerful energy healing technique that has many profound effects. Most prominently, Reiki helps relieve pain and accelerates the body's self-healing abilities. A Reiki session lasting one hour produces similar physical benefits as 3 to 4 hours of deep sleep.
Some other benefits include:
- Releases stress and tension
- Aids in better quality sleep
- Reduces blood pressure
- Supports the immune system
- Removes energy blockages and promotes energetic flow through the endocrine system
- Reduces some side effects of pharmaceutical drugs
- Assists the body in removing toxins
- Balances chakras and clears meridians
- Facilitates deep meditation
Reiki is gentle enough that anyone can enjoy the benefits. Reiki stills the mind and allows for the body's natural defences to be enhanced. It is a more holistic approach to support and maintain health without the adverse side effects associated with pharmaceutical drugs.
Reiki can be used on pets as well as plants. Dogs will usually let you know when their energy has been replenished by moving away. Cats, on the other hand, seem to be drawn to Reiki energy and never seem to have enough.
